Geotechnical Engineering Consulting Services
 Since our inception in 1994, Geosciences Design Group, LLC has provided
geotechnical engineering services for numerous projects, large and small, for a
spectrum of clients and projects sites that range from local homeowners to
governmental agencies and large corporations with interests extending across the
country and internationally.
As geotechnical consultants we provide the information needed to design and
construct all sorts of civil projects, such as highways, buildings, bridges,
towers and dams. In addition, we provide expertise to assess and recommend
treatments for slope stability issues, excavation and tunneling concerns, and
practically any kind of problem that involves the behavior of soil, bedrock and
ground water as they relate to man’s desire to reshape the earth and build upon
it.
We bring competence, experience and innovation to projects and always seek to
add value as a consultant of choice for projects ranging from routine to the
most complex.
Soil / Materials Laboratory
Development of reliable and representative data is critical to the
engineering process.
Our in house laboratory is equipped to provide all of the routine and many of
the more complicated types of testing needed to assess the engineering
parameters of soil and rock. Experienced technicians and engineering
professionals are responsible for conducting the tests essential for proper
analysis and decision making. The strength, compressibility and volume change
potential of cohesive soils are routinely analyzed with the use of precision,
state-of-the-art equipment. Testing of cohesion-less, granular soils, bedrock
cores and aggregates is also conducted – all in accordance with appropriate ASTM
procedures and a professional standard of care that recognizes the importance of
good data.
Seismic Design
Recent changes in building codes require new considerations for the
seismic design of many types of buildings. Geophysical analysis of the shallow
subsurface can frequently allow an improvement of the code requirements
affecting a more economical structural design. In many cases this improvement in
the seismic design criteria permits an owner to realize substantial saving in
construction costs. Geosciences Design Group, LLC has invested in the equipment
and new technologies that permit us to quickly and unobtrusively assess the site
specific seismic response, determine the seismic shear wave velocities and
characterize the subsurface conditions beneath a site through geophysical
methods. Our specially trained staff in concert with affiliated scientific
personnel on the west coast are capable of performing the seismic testing for
addressing IBC building code requirements and to characterize subsurface
conditions for a variety of project applications.
